When I saw the sketch at Once Upon A Sketch with the journaling prompt for holidays or vacations, I knew exactly which photo I wanted to use. My HIDDEN JOURNALING is in the envelope on the right side of the photo and it reads: Our family took a much needed vacation to the Dominican Republic. Our children wanted to just lay on the beach and tan. Mom had a different idea. If we were going to travel 3,355 miles/ 5,399 km. we were going to see more than just the beach! I believe in not just traveling to different countries but learning about their cultures and social backgrounds. I wanted to see where they lived, where they go to school, what were their living conditions. We toured for a day through the country side visiting the local children bringing them gifts to help them in school. At the end of our holiday I asked our children what was their favourite part, and they both said it was when we took our tour and they got to see how Dominican children lived. They really stopped and took a moment to reflect on how different their lives were living in Canada. We met this little girl that day...she stole my heart. She rides to school each day on a donkey from her village. It makes you stop and realize just how blessed we are. We think of her often and would love to visit her again.
Thanks so much for stopping by. I love reading your comments and I appreciate your scrappy support! Have a wonderfully happy scrappy day! Lynn
