 The Printed Letter Bookshop

Madeline is shocked to find out that her Aunt Maddie has left her the bookshop she cherished after she passed. Madeline doesn’t know anything about running a book shop and decides to sell it, that is until she visits the shop and meets the two women who work there. Janet, who is recently divorced and is finding her way loves working at the book shop. Claire who is a mother and wife and is looking for her purpose in life is the other employee. Soon together, these three women work together to find a way to keep the shop open.

What I loved about this book is how the author Katherine Reay tells the story from the perspective of all three women throughout the book. We gain insight into their personal lives which brings us so much closer to the characters. I love how Madeline, Janet and Claire grow closer in friendship during the book.  The Silent Widow

Psychologist Nikki Roberts has just lost her husband and is trying to move on with her life. Suddenly one of Nikki’s patients is murdered. As the story unfolds, it’s looking like Nikki is the link to not only what is happening currently, but she is also the link to past murders. The detectives on the case are split in their theories whether Nikki is guilty, or whether she is the target. Nikki is certain the police are missing something so she hires her own private detective to investigate. The story starts twisting and turning leaving the reader wanting to unravel the mystery as much as Nikki does.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. Just when you think you had it figured out, the story would twist again. Little bits start falling into place from the past that starts tying the whole story together. Right at the end of the book, another twist  takes place which leaves you speechless.  So grab your coffee and settle in for an amazing mystery. In the 15^th book in the series, FBI agent Lucy Kincaid is called in to assist on a case with the local police department’s detective Jerry Walker. Three murders have taken place which looks like there is a serial killer on the loose in San Antonio. Lucy and Jerry work endless hours following leads which keep leading to dead ends. Just when they think they have found the killer….the story takes yet another twist.

A second story involving Lucy’s husband Sean , his son Jesse, and Sean’s brother Kane is also taking place. A young boy who is a friend of Jesse’s gets caught up in a gang to be able to see his older brother who was released from prison. They all have to learn to trust each other to be able to save this young boys life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read a few of the previous books so I was familiar with the characters, yet was not caught up with the story. Allison Brennan has a way of catching you up and yet writing this as a stand-alone book by giving you enough background information on the characters. This book has it all, mystery, intrigue and family relationships. I’m excited to now go back and read the books I’ve missed. Getting Hot With The Scot - Book Review

Meet Cassie, a career woman bent on having a fling on her European vacation  with her girlfriends. What’s wrong with a little fun right? What Cassie wasn’t expecting was running into a very Hot Scot!  Meet Logan, a man who has fun each and every day. The more fun he has, the more he can bury his painful past. He is always out for a good time, not a long time…until……..he meets Cassie! Can they walk away from each other the next morning? Or will they find what they both have been truly longing for?

This story has it all, friendship, humor, heartbreak and romance all wrapped beautifully in this first book of a new series by Melonie Johnson. The characters are very well written, you get a glimpse into each of the supporting characters, just enough to make you want to know how their stories end as well. I personally can’t wait for the next book in the series, both to continue the adventures of the ladies, but also to catch up with Cassie and Logan.

The Summer Retreat by Sheila Roberts

Celeste thought she found true love until she gets dumped for another woman her “almost” fiancé has had on the side . She packs her bags and heads home to be with her sister Jenna in Moonlight Harbor. Surely things will be easier at home with family. But will it? Celeste soon finds a safe choice for true love, a pastor has to be safe right? But is he the right choice? Is Celeste choosing the right man this time? Can Jenna help? And who is Henry ? And why every time she is near him, her heart flutters? He can’t be the one for Celeste can he? So many questions yet you have to read the book to see how it all plays out.
These two sisters come together to face love, loss and heartbreak but still have hopes of finding their one true love. This is a beautiful story of family, friendship and love. A perfect summer read! I haven’t read the first two books in the series, but I am definitely going to buy them and catch up on the other characters in the story. One Last Summer by Victoria Connelly

Harriet has rented a priory for the summer and has invited her two best friends Audrey and Lisa to join her. She is hoping they can reconnect and deepen the friendship these ladies have had since college. The all gather at the beautiful priory and their journey begins. What Audrey and Lisa don’t know is that Harriet has a deep secret that she has been hiding from them the past few years. Is their friendship strong enough to handle what is coming?
I did enjoy this book, but if I am being honest and keeping it real, I was a little disappointed in the beginning of the story. The allure of the book for me was the “deep secret” Harriet was keeping. Her secret was revealed right at the beginning of the book, which took all the mystery out of the story. The characters were well developed and you get drawn into the lives of the three women as the story continues. Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.

Are you longing for a deeper relationship with God? Are you struggling to find balance between work and worship?  This book by Tricia McCaary Rhodes  is exactly what you are looking for.  It’s a book to help you find a spiritual practice that calms your soul, helps you focus, and guides you on how to deepen your prayer life with God. For forty days you journey each day practicing prayer and pressing in by reading, reflecting and journaling. The balance quickly restores between life and prayer. You will grow in your faith as well as opening up your heart and letting everything inside go to God. He is there, He is listening.

I loved working through this book. I have always prayed, but didn’t feel the closeness that one can feel with God. It’s a practice that I need to carry forward. I can definitely see picking this book up again during Lent for a refreshing forty day journey with God, Thank you to Tyndale House for an advanced copy of this book to review.

Sacred Questions - Book Review

This book by Kellye Fabian is a refreshing change in the word of devotionals. We get to read Kellye’s story and reflections, but what this book does that so few do is direct you straight to Scripture to delve deeper and ask your questions. As the Kellye writes in her introduction : “ As I reflect back, I can see that God has used this practice of asking questions to show me who He is, allow me to see myself more clearly, break patterns of sin, grow in forgiveness and love, and join His work in the world.”.  This is exactly what I was looking for, that soul searching conversation with God to help me grow, learn and change.  Through the year the devotions are broken down into fifteen different sections which focus on topics to help you find your way back to God in a new and different experience.

Even though I am not finished the book, the journey so far has been so thought provoking and it has challenged me in so many different ways to face things not only from my past but also my present. I feel lighter and closer to God. I am really looking forward to continuing my journey of faith for the following year. Impostor's Lure - Book Review

Impostor's Lure by Carla Neggers

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Carla Neggers does it again in her eighth novel in the Sharpe & Donovan series with a brilliantly written mystery. We reunite with Emma and Colin in this book as they are thrust into the mystery of a death of a couple, a missing federal prosecutor and the suspicious death of a Russian Linguist. We also get to visit several loved characters from previous novels. We catch up with Oliver & Henrietta and Emma’s grandfather, Wendell Sharpe. We travel through Maine, Ireland and London as we unravel the mystery piece by piece and see how all the characters stories intertwine with one another.

This book was a page turner for me. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed catching up with all the characters and I couldn’t guess who had committed the crimes until it was revealed. A definite five star rating for Carla Neggers for another amazing book. Thank you to Harlequin for an advanced copy of the book to review.
