Wishful Soul

When I saw this sketch by Karan Gerber at Sketchabilities  I wanted to do it right away. I just love her! When I saw the banner I went "yikes". That's what I love about challenges. They sometimes take you out of your comfort zone or let you try things you wouldn't normally do. My first thought was....wedding layout! But then I sat and thought about it. I wanted to do pink and frilly, and it took me 2 hours to find a photo, lol. I wish I had a baby girl ( anyone want to borrow me a grandbaby?) I ended up picking a photo of me with my new "piggy mittens" I got for my birthday when we went to Banff for the weekend.  Then I stopped by Scrapping The Music and when I heard the song "I'm alive" and read the lyrics I knew what the layout was going to be called. Those girls over there really have to stop making me cry. I don't share alot of my personal story on my blog, so that's why alot of the time it's in hidden journaling. For my journaling I used the lyrics to the song. It spoke to my heart. So thank you Karan for the beautiful sketch and for the girls who always touch my heart at Scrapping the Music.

My Scraproom

As messy as it is, I wanted to capture my new scraproom on film. Just as it looks today after finishing a layout. I get a lot of questions whether my work is digital or traditional. I'm totally a traditional scrapper, covered in ink, mist and glue at the end of each day. I haven't tried digi, but would love to learn how to do what digi scrappers do. A lot less messy I'm thinking! This is my daughters old room, I'm not fussy about the red wall, but for now it stays! So this is my room, my stuff and wait..my new shelving unit from Costco (almost forgot about that).

Thanks so much for stopping by. I love reading your comments and I appreciate your scrappy support! Have a wonderfully happy scrappy day! Lynn

Journey

I just love when I find a beautiful sketch and inspiration to do another wedding layout for my album. My beautiful daughter has had quite the journey in life so when I saw that Bird Is The Word new word was "Journey" I knew that would be the title for this layout. Nicole's tragic accident and her triumphs following made her into the beautiful, confident, kind, loving person she is today. Sometimes we don't see when something happens to us what the outcome will be down the road. She had to give up a professional ballroom dance career after her accident and decided to focus on school. With a reduced course load and having to spend and extra year and a half in university she graduated with Distinction and a 4.0 GPA. That's my girl. When something happens, God is just putting you on a different path. I love this girl and am so proud of her. The layout is based on a sketch at C'est Magnifique. It's my first challenge with them, so I'm excited to be a part of their community now.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I love reading your comments and I appreciate your scrappy support! Have a wonderfully happy scrappy day! Lynn

Wooohoooo I made the Top 15!!

This is just too much fun! I just made the Top 15 at Practical Scrappers . This is my new layout for the next round. It's your support and votes that are keeping in this competition, so once again I'm going to ask ( I know I'm getting to be a pain, lol) for you to take a moment if you can and stop by and vote! The link to vote is http://www.practicalscrappers.com/2012/01/3rd-round-layout-contest-vote-here.html  Our challenge was to use these beautiful photos of quilts. I chose the design of the quilt rather than the color.

I got the inspiration from the sketch at Stuck on U Sketches which to me had a quilt feel to it and the title inspiration came from the challenge at Bird Is The Word.

Supplies: Creative Imaginations, My Minds Eye Paris & Co, Michaels Ribbon, Misc. Buttons, Dusty Attic Chipboard, ColorBok Vellum Quotes, Prima Flowers, Prima Resist Canvas, Tim Holtz Distress Ink Walnut & Frayed Burlap, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Partridge in a pear tree.

To Everything There is a Season

This is Tessa and Nicole. The bond between a child and her pet is so beautiful and precious. Tessa was always by her side. When Nicole had her tragic accident where she suffered neck and back injuries, Tessa was always laying beside her, the kind and gentle companion. I just had to scrapbook their friendship. This week we have lost three members of our family and extended family. I have come to the place where my healing begins, my studio, where I can pay tribute through my art to the ones we love. The layout was from a sketch at Bo Bunny and the inspiration for the title came from Scrap it With A Song. At Crop Stop the challenge is "time". We sometimes take for granted the time we have with our friends, family or pets. All Nicole keeps saying is "I wish I had more time with her". So, take the time today to tell someone you love them.

A Home is Built with Love and Dreams

We have a cabin which is a few hours from our home in the city. For the last 28 years this has been our home away from home. There are so many memories here. It's where our children grew up playing on the beach, going for quad rides, fishing, skidooing, swinging on the swings and sitting by the fire. This is my refuge. There is nothing more memorable than waking up early in the morning and going out to sit on the deck and watching the birds on the lake.  This layout is for a sketch at Sketches With A Twist. It's my first time visiting and I'm so excited I found this site. My hidden journaling reads:

My Home Away From Home
My dad built this cabin for his family but
passed away before he could enjoy it himself.
He left his legacy in these walls and beams.
The trees that he plants and the memories he left behind will be
cherished forever.
This is the home my Dad built.

New Beginnings

Let's just say that doing the challenge for White With 1 took me right out of my comfort zone. I'm not use to working with only one color and white. It was a good challenge for me to try something different to see what I could do. I still kept that shabby style I like, because no matter how hard I try I just end up ripping, tearing and inking something on my layout! I just found this site, and I love it!

Supplies: Making Memories Patterned Paper, Misc. Doily, Forever in Time buttons, Prima Flowers, Offray Ribbon

Boots

Last night I was browsing around and I found this wonderful site with such beautiful people. So warm and welcoming! The challenge at Soul Scrappers was a quote! "You pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too. That's a part of it"... Love it! When I saw that quote, my brain went to the photo of me at the lake with my new rubber boots. We have alot of people out at the cabin, and our boots kept getting confused. So my sister and I went out and bought the most colorful boots we could find. Now the boys stay away from them, lol. I love my pink boots. The inspiration for the design came from the latest Frosted Designs sketch. I flipped it, but I really love how this turned out. I also entered this in the misting challenge at Scrapbookers Anonymous .I'm starting to do my "creative" scrapping after midnight. Not sure how to fit in sleep and scrapping, lol. Have a wonderful day my friends!

Sugar & Spice

This layout took me forever to do, lol. I fussed, I inked, I rearranged but I finally finished it. This is my daughter Nicole on her wedding day. I love this girl. The title of my layout "Sugar & Spice" came from Scrapping The Music. If you know my daughter, this fits perfectly. She is sugar, but she has a spicy side to her. Love that James Brown Song!  The inspiration came from Once Upon A Sketch which has the most beautiful sketches and inspiration to do a layout. We were asked to journal about  New Beginnings and again if you know Nicole, her life now is full of new and wonderful beginnings. The hidden journal tag reads:

What a Year for you my sweet Nicole
A new marriage
A new house
A new job
And new friends
Along with this will come new experiences,
and your life is now on a new journey.
I'm so proud of what you have accomplished
and the risks you take in life.
You are my precious girl
I love you today, tomorrow and forever

Little Moments, Big Memories

This is Tessa. She was my best friend. My companion and my fur baby. I can't even begin to write everything that she meant to me and my family. She will be so dearly missed. We had Little Moments with her, but Big Memories. She was my "pretty girl". She is gone to heaven now, and I miss her every day. I used the sketch at Let's Capture These Sketches to complete my layout. Thank you so much my friends for your kind words, your thoughtful emails and hugs during this last week. I really appreciate each and every one of you.

Minnie??

This layout is focused on my darling son Ryan! While we were vacationing in Disneyland he would constantly grab Nicole's Minnie Mouse ears and wear them. He thought he looked "so cool" with his pink shirt and sunglasses wearing the ears, lol. This is a hard bunch of pics to scrap! I searched for paper and finally found this little pad of paper from who knows when and thought "why not". I tried to keep it simple, no flowers or flourishes, lol. So after fighting with it all afternoon, I'm done, lol.  I did have fun smiling at the photos! Gotta love my kids. Maybe the next layout will be of my boys with their matching yoda backpacks...yes they really are in their twenties, lol. I used the sketch below from Creative Scrappers for some inspiration! Love their sketches!

Supplies: Unidentified paper, lol

The "Liebster Award" Just made my day!!!

I am just blown away that I was chosen to receive this award from Joyce at
http://scrapsofelegance.blogspot.com/ . She is truly such a sweet person who has been such a great support offering her encouragement and her heartfelt comments on my blog. To be recognized and appreciated as a new up and coming scrapbooker by someone like Joyce is the most prestigious award I could have received. Thank you so much Joyce! Please stop by Joyce's blog and show her some love. She is such a sweet person! Now I would like to extend this amazing gift to some of my favorite blogs.

This is what the Liebster Award represents

“Liebster” is a German word meaning dearest, beloved or favorite, and the Liebster Award is sort of a chain letter among bloggers that’s intended to showcase exceptional up-and-coming blogs (typically, those with 200 or fewer followers). There’s no evaluation committee or formal award process for the Liebster, but in a way it’s even nicer – it’s recognition that a peer has noticed and appreciated your hard work.
And, now I am sharing and passing on the award to five up and coming blogs that I'm sure you will want to stop by for a visit and say hi.

Here are the rules:
Choose 5 up and coming blogs of fewer than 200 followers to award the Liebster to.
Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
Post the award on your blog. Link back to the blogs you have given the Liebster to so everyone else can pay them a visit.
Heere are the ladies who's blogs I've chosen. They are amazing artists!

Bridesmaids

Here come the bridesmaids! This in another page in the mini album I'm working on for Nicole. Whenever I find a beautiful sketch I'm using it for the album. It's kind of fun to take a big sketch and scale it down to an 8x8 layout. You can't fit alot of elements on it, but it's sure helping me get the album done. This sketch is from My Creative Sketches. It's my first time visiting them, but I know I'm going to become a regular!

Supplies: Bo Bunny Enchanted, Recollections Handmade Floral Embellishments, Prima Say it in Crystals

One is Fun

I found this challenge sketch at Little Yellow Bicycle . I have some Babysaurus papers left from a mini album, so I thought it would be fun to come out of my usual style and try this out. I did grab the ink pad a few times, but I tried to keep it simple and just focus on the photos of Kinslee. She is my little "adopted niece" who turned one recently. I haven't done baby pics in a long long time, so this was fun!

Zoo Lights

The new challenge at Practical Scrappers is to use Kraft Paper. I bought this awhile ago and wasn't sure what to do with it, lol. My usual shopping habit is to buy stuff before I think, lol. When I saw the challenge that little light bulb came on and away I went. The paper is even called "Cherry & Kraft". This is a photo of Nicole and Chris at zoo lights. We took a trip to Calgary and they treated us to a night out on the town complete with a tour of the Calgary zoo all lit up. Fabulous! I used the sketch #32 at Frosted Designs to complete my layout. Their sketches are amazing. The weather here is cold, cold, cold...-40C with the windchill...yikes. So now the decision is...scrap or clean? Yeah, I know, no contest! Scrapping always wins!

Strength Courage & Wisdom

Today was a very sad day for our family. Our beloved pet of sixteen years passed away this morning, peacefully in my arms. She was my companion and a friend to many. She will be sadly missed. Again, I couldn't face being around the house cleaning her things, so I came to my studio and did what I do for therapy. I scrap! When I saw the challenge today at Scrap It With A Song I started to cry and knew what I wanted to do. The challenge was a song for the New Year. I chose India Arie "Strength, Courage & Wisdom". I love the lyrics so much I included them in my layout to remind me of what I want to achieve.  Below is the link to the song, and it is so fitting for me. The last two years have been trying for sure. I don't want to go into details, but two surgeries, a brain trauma, and my family being by my side has made me the person I am today. I want to grow, I want to smile, I want to be happy and just live for today. I also combined this with a sketch challenge at Let's Capture These Sketches which was so beautiful, I hope I did it justice. P.S. Thanks to all of you that voted for me today at http://www.practicalscrappers.com/2012/01/layout-contest-group-5_17.html . It's a one day only vote, so I appreciate all our your support my friends.

Promise

Today was a really sad day at our house. Our dog of sixteen years, Tessa is not doing well. At the Extended Care facility where I work we term it "End of Life". We are keeping her comfortable and staying by her side. While I was keeping her company today I found a few challenge sites and decided to do what I do when I'm happy, upset, sad, mad or glad. I scrapbook. It's my therapy. So to keep my mind occupied, I'm combing four challenges today. The title came from the Bird is the Word challenge blog where the word to use was "PROMISE" This is my husband and I and our promise to each other:

Count Your Blessings
Bear Each Others Burdens
Forgive and Forget
Be Kind & Tender Hearted
Comfort One Another
Keep Your Promises
Be Proud of Each Other
Be True to Each Other
Look After Each Other
Love

The beautiful sketch is from Creative Scrappers

The color inspiration came from Color Combos Galore
I thought the little hats looked like flowers and I loved the color combination. Also saw the doily under the hat and decided to use one too!

And my fun came from The Paper Variety  where the challenge was to make fan fold embellishments! I'm new to that technique, so it took a bit of work, lol. I also tried stitching on my layout for the first time. Do you believe I had a mini sewing machine downstairs where my craft stuff is buried? Oh...I'm loving it!!

Supplies: Bo Bunny Et Cetera Watermark & Geography, Bo Bunny Love Shack Groovin  & Et Cetera Symphony for the flowers, Prima Flowers, Wilton Doilies, Tattered Angels  Wheat Beer Glimmer Mist, My new/old mini sewing machine for stitching.

Exciting News

I got an email late last night that a scrapbook magazine wants three of my layouts for publication! Yeah! My goals for this year were to make a design team and have more of my work published. The wonderful ladies at ScrapFit chose me to be a Fit Girl starting in February which took care of goal number one and last night goal number two was met! I guess I have to pick some new goals for the year! I will have more information on the publication when I get confirmation from them! Have an awesome day everyone!

He Who Plants a Garden, Plants Happiness

This layout is of my daughters wedding shower. We had so much fun. She wanted something unique so we did an afternoon tea party with a twist. We had a wacky shoe contest. We had prizes for the highest shoes, the shoes with the most bling, the most sensible, the most outrageous. It was so much fun to see what all the people wore. We had a great day and I was so happy for her. So the first photo is of my daughter and I ( I was her matron of honor) and the little photo is of all the bridesmaids. I was looking for the right design and this morning found sketch #63 at Sketchabilities which was was designed by the fabulous Karan Gerber. It's another snowy day here, so....more scrapping?

Et Cetera Mini Album

Today was a cold and snowy day here so what better thing to do than scrap right? I had this line from Bo Bunny and was saving part of it for a mini album. Today was the day. You should see my desk right now...yikes! At Scrap Your Crap the challenge is to use 50% old product and 50% new product. I have old and new in this book. My miscellaneous draw was all over my floor last night, lol.

The photos are all of our trip to Banff last fall. It was such a memorable holiday that I wanted to do an album just for my husband and I to remember our journey together that weekend. I'm entering this at ScrapFit where the challenge is the simple things in life. That's what this album is about...the simple things. Our family has had a rough few years and we went away to reconnect and enjoy the simple things. To let go and just live in the moment. When I saw this challenge I cried remembering our journey. The last page reads:

Enjoy the little things in life.....
for one day you'll look back and realize they were the big things.

At Scrapbookers Anonymous the challenge is the letter "F"....Fall, Flowers, Family, Fiskars, Fabric, Fiber... love this! You can put alot of "F" in a mini album!

Supplies: Bo Bunny Et Cetera  Geography, Stamped, Odds & Ends, Symphony patterned papers, cardstock stickers, K&C Company Life's Journey Grand Adhesions, Prima Flowers,

I was chosen for the First Round Layout Contest at Practical Scrappers

I will let you all know which day I'm featured, and I would really appreciate you stopping by to vote for me! Thanks so much everyone!

Ellen

At All About Me Challenge blog the challenge was to journal about someone who has made a difference in your life, so I chose to do a layout about my best friend Ellen. I used the sketch from Creative Craft World. We don't take many photos together but this one was taken at Nicole's shower. Ellen, who is like a mother to Nicole offered to do her bridal shower. Now is that not the qualifications of a best friend? lol. Seriously though she is my rock. I could take up the whole blog talking about what she means to me. I would like to share my hidden journaling with you.

This is Ellen:
Ellen and I have been friends for 24 years. We have been through the
good times and the bad times together.
She has been my rock.
She is the first person I call and her door is always open.
She has supported me and my family through it all.
She is not only my best friend, she is more like a sister.
I want to thank you Ellen for all you've done and all you've been through
being my friend.
I love you more than words can express.

Imagine the Possibilities

This layout is for a challenge at Color Combo Galore. The inspiration was to document your goals for the New Year. My hidden journaling talks about my goals and what I want to learn as well in the New Year. As soon as I saw the photo my eye was drawn to the clock. It seems that time is ticking away so quickly some days. I stenciled a clock on my layout and also used a chipboard clock to remind me to slow down and  relax and enjoy life more often. I loved the soft color scheme of this and really loved using that burst of champagne.
I used this sketch from Stuck On U Sketches to inspire my design. It's a New Year, so let's see if I can attain the goals I've set for myself.

The challenge at Scrapbookers Anonymous is to use ink, mist or paint on your project. I misted my flowers, I masked and inked the clocks, I inked around my papers. I misted and inked the doily. I'm on a mist and ink craze right now I guess you would say, lol

Supplies: Bo Bunny Et Cetera Index, My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Sunshine, Maya Road Chipboard, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Crafters Workshop Template, Scrapbook Eh Memory Flowers, Bo Bunny Et Cetera  Cut Outs
